To determine the number of deer in a game preserve a man catches 868 deer tags them and sets them free. Later 558 deer are caught 186 are tagged how many deer are in the preserve?

Thank you I am having a hard time with math I just don't get it.

Answer
So, 186 out of 558 deer are tagged. A total of 868 deer out of all the deer in the preserve are tagged. The number of deer in the preserve compared to the 868 tagged deer should be proportionate to the 558 captured deer compared to the 186 that are tagged out of that number. Therefore:
186/558 = 868/x
(x meaning the number of deer in the preserve)
Divide 868 by 186 to find the "scale factor." Then use that scale factor to find the value of x. To do that, multiply 558 by the scale factor you got earlier. That will give you the approximate number of deer in the preserve.

How come feeding deer, doe scent and game cameras are NOT cheating, but hunting in a game preserve is?

I just had some people get all righteous with me about game preserves. "Penned up Animals," and all that. The YO ranch in Texas is 23 square miles, but it is still "shooting fish in a barrel".

Answer
Where I come from if I set my water bottle on the ground the DNR would probably arrest me for baiting. But raised animals are not wild animal so they are basically livestock
