Q. Every hour, precisely from the time I either log into xbox live or when I start pc gaming, I get disconnected. After doing some research I thought it might be from having a dynamic IP address so I changed the settings on my extender to a static IP address, but the problem continues. I have heard people mention DHCP lease times may have something to do with it, but under my extender settings there is no way to adjust the lease time. Before I bought the extender (NETGEAR WN2000RPT) I had only decent connection, but didn't have this problem, so I know the problem lies within my extender. I was wondering how I could change this problem which has come to annoy me while trying to stream movies or game online.
Yes but if the DHCP lease time was set at an hour on my main router, then it would have dropped me from the internet when I was connecting to it, before I bought the range extender, which it didn't. So unless by me installing my range extender automatically changed the DHCP lease time on the main router, that shouldn't be the reason correct?

Answer
It might not be your extender, it may be the DHCP lease time of your main router LAN. The DHCP lease time of my combo wireless/router/modem is set for 7 "days". Maybe yours is set for 1 "hour" and even if you set a static LAN IP on computer devices, maybe the range extender is getting a new IP from your main router.
A static LAN IP is set within the network IP range of course, but is best set outside of DHCP assigned range. For example my DHCP assigns LAN IP's ending in .100-.199, so for static IP addresses I use numbers less that .100 for my main PC and printer and numbers over .199 for things like wireless bridges, etc.

What are some good role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons?

DGS
My sons like playing these games and I was wondering if there are other similar games where you can buy the starter materials (books, etc.) relatively inexpensively. I recall something like D&D when I was a kid where you took on the role of superheros.
Answer
There are a ton of Table Top Role Playing Games out there, some that are aimed at kids, some aimed at adults, some in between. There are too many to list here, but there is a great website out there called "Geekdo" that evolved from the website Board Game Geek which is a huge source for Board Games and RPGs. I'm linking the RPG section below.
Finding the games should be pretty easy if you go to a Game Store or Comic Book store as they usually have at least a few RPG books on their shelves. Some of the major bookstore chains like Barnes and Noble and Borders have a section for RPG books that includes not only D&D but some of the other "big time" RPGs, usually some of the White Wolf games that let players play as a sort of monster(Vampire, Werewolf, Changeling, etc) and they might even have "Mutants and Masterminds" a pretty darn good Superhero system. A Boardgame or Comic store should be able to help you narrow down what game you'd like to play.
For inexpensive you should check the web for books from older systems that people are selling online. Some companies even sell just the digital version of the books making them cheaper than a hard copy, some around $7 or so. You can probably find that info on Geekdo, though I haven't tried it myself. Also on Geekdo is the marketplace, where people are selling their copies of the books they don't want any more. Another way to get cheap RPG books is to go to a Sci-Fi Convention as there is usually a good sized commerce room where people are selling things and you can buy DVDs or RPG books aplenty.
Well, I hope that's helpful. Good luck and good gaming.
