Looking to build a good gaming pc for around £500 intel
Answer
500 GBP = 785 USD but based on what I've seen everything is much expensive in the UK
Something like this should be fine.

Here's a $700 build, try to find these parts:

Just try to come up with a build with an i5-2300 or better, an HD 6870 or GTX 560 or better, and a 2x2GB or 2x4GB RAM, and you should be able to play most games on high.
Edit: To the guy below me, if you haven't noticed, I did, in fact manage to make a $700 build with an i5-2310 and a GTX 560.
Don't get the FX-4100 since even the older Phenom Quad cores perform better. If you're opting to get an FX-4100, just get a Phenom II X4 955 BE since you can easily overclock it to X4 980 levels.
Edit2:
Awesome ad hominem, bro. Calling someone dumbass as opposed to showing actual evidence to support your suggestion, very classy. How does actually citing evidence for my claims make me a dumbass? The truth is, for $120 or whatever the price it is there in the UK, the better choice would be the Phenom II X4 955 BE than the FX-4100, anyone who actually has any experience with building PCs will tell you this. If you're saying that any quad core should be fine, then you're effectively claiming that it is fine to get even the old Core 2 Quads.
I knew that prices there are much steeper that's why I also added a $570 build as a reference for the minimum.

Answer
The best gaming PC right now for $500 is the CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA380 Gaming Desktop Computer . Right now on B7H it is for 511 dollars, but only until October 12, in which the price climbs to 541 dollars. It looks REALLY cool, and even has LEDs built in. They are in stock as you are reading this, but I'm pretty sure people are also trying to buy this. Here are the specs:
â¾3.6GHz AMD FX-4100 Zambezi Quad-Core CPU
â¾8GB DDR3 SDRAM
â¾1TB SATA III 7200rpm Hard Drive
â¾nVIDIA GeForce GT610 Graphics Card
â¾24x DVD±RW DL Super-Multi Drive
â¾Integrated 5.1 Channel HD Audio
â¾10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45
â¾Thermaltake Commander Mid-Tower Case
â¾USB Gaming Keyboard and Mouse
â¾Windows 8 64-bit Edition
I'll post the pic for this PC down below, so you can see the awesomness of it all.
If you want to wait, you can save up to 1000 dollars, to get an Alienware PC, which is the best one on the market, but remember, that you will have to build this one yourself.
You can save up even more, for the RazerBlade pro, but that's 3000 dollars, and isn't in a lot of people budgets for a gaming PC.
