BECAUSE I DO. Everything was fine until they decided to "get married" and go off on some mini vacation. That just killed everything. All the intense fighting scenes became all about stupidass love instead of the important part. Their relationship was fine and fun at first but now its just annoying. It changed the characters dramatically. And i hate how they skip important scenes. Though i have not read the manga, even i can tell that the anime missed important stuff. And what the hell is with after they left the game. The story became something even more weird + stupid that has nothing to do with sword art online no more.

How much closer are we to simulation type video games?

So, if you're a gamer, you know that we all dream that one day, there will be some kind of console where you can actually see as if you're the main character in the game. If you watch the anime Sword Art Online, you know that the system kind of puts you asleep in the real world and by controlling your brain, it sends you to the video game where you can run, attack, and do all sorts of stuff using your brain in the real world. Also, you can't feel pain in the game, you can only feel the force knocking you in any direction.Anyway, the BIG question is that, are we any closer to creating this kind of technology? OR does it still seem a bit too farfetched for our time? The whole concept of being IN a video game just seems awesome to me. Has there been any kind of research on it yet? Just curious.

10 years ago, at the mall, there was some small setup of 2-3 machines in the middle of the floor.
One, I sat in a little plane looking thing. Felt kinda silly...like those rides you put in a quarter that moves back and forth for the kiddies. lol It was a jet-fighter game. Inside it was like all the windows were a screen. If I turned my head I could see the jet behind me shooting at me.
The other machien was a circular stand with rails....so you wouldn't fall off. I put on a headset and I was inside some virtual world.....like a halo game....my character was just not very mobile. I'd walk in place to make my character move and I can't remember if I had gloves on that i just pointed to shoot or if I had some gun....been a long time.
Point is...virtual reality has been around for a LONG time. Like someone else said the reason it's not around is because it's not practical. There'd be few people who could afford the machinery, so the gaming company would make zero money.
If you've seen .hack//sign....they put on a headset and use a console controller. We're there right now.....we're just not there at making the cost feasible for the general public.
Now, with Sword Art Online....we're way off on that. You're talking about stuff like the movie Avatar (blue aliens). I just saw the premiere this weekend at 2am on cartoon network. I thought the show had potential...but the translation made it feel.....meh. So, as soon as I saw the english translation for some of the japanese writing I knew it was already out in Japan. I went to gogoanime.com and sure enough....25 episodes with subtitles there. I like the show a lot more (saw epsidoes 2-4 last night and will watch them with my g/f the next few nights) with english subtitles rather than the english voice actor translations on cartoon network....but that's usually the case with the majority of anime shows.
Anyways, the show talks about puttng you to sleep in a way where the headset intercepts the activities sent by your brain. We won't have that soon. Don't get me wrong I haven't done the thorough research and this may be out there somewhere being tested in some lab, but it won't reach the gaming market any day soon. I've seen video of some girl missing an arm and they attached some robotic arm. All she had to do was think about grabbing the box on the top shelf and the arm slowly moved to do this. That shows it's very possible to have our thoughts submitted to a machine to basically do what we're thinking. Applying it to a game, as much as I'd love that, I don't think I'll see that in my life time sadly (33yr).
