What are the best websites for free educational online games for elementary school age kids?

Ones that help teach math concepts would be particularly helpful. Some online math games just have kids add increasingly greater numbers, but at some point you need paper and pencil and there isn't much in terms of visual interest. Also some will ask about exponent questions but not really teach a child how to do the problem.

Ones that involve brain teasers or deep thinking would be great...also verbal skills would be helpful.. vocabulary building, analogies, spelling. I'd love to know what your favorites are.

my niece is always wanting to play on online games where you design your own things like webkinz and stardoll. webkinz we think is a little to young for her and stardoll, my sister in law doesnt want to pay for. any online free games that would help us out?
