The last game of the world series hasn't been played yet. The phillies won the most recent one, as expected, 8-6.
Game 6 tomorrow night should be fun to watch. I expect a lot of runs. The Phillies will likely lead early as Pettitte is going on short rest for the first time in over 3 years and Pedro is on regular rest, but look for the Yankees to come back in the 5th and 6th as Pedro's pitch count gets up and then dominate the Phillies bull pen to win the game.
I'm going out on a limb and predicting a walk-off by Derek Jeter. He's the only regular Yankee starter who doesn't have one yet this year. Even several of the bench players (Cervelli, Harriston, etc.) have them too. I also think Posada will come up big against Pedro. He's been hitting well lately and he absolutely hates Pedro, who has intentionally thrown at Posada's head. (He threatened to do it, then he did it, clear intent.)
That's my prediction.

When will the World Series start?

the earliest the 2x LCS could be over is Thursday and the latest (assuming no acts of God) would be Sunday. given that range, when are the possible start dates of the World Series (or is that set regardless of outcomes?) and where will the opening game be played?
Answer
The game dates are fixed in advance.
The 2008 World Series starts Wednesday, 22-October, 8:30-ish Eastern time, at the American League champion's park, unless weather or other circumstances muck it up.
